WHO benefits from my donations?
Women and children in the St. Louis community. We accept donations of “like-new” women’s and children’s accessories and clothing, and we resell them in our boutique to raise money for Women’s Foundation of Greater St. Louis and Nurses for Newborns. We also raise money for many other St. Louis area women’s and children’s charities throughout the year, and we outfit women for emergency wardrobe replacement, internships, job searches, career advancement, and many other need situations, often at no charge to them.
WHO can donate?
Anyone can donate! Donors can be individuals, families, stores, manufacturers, or estates.
WHAT can I donate?
Women’s and children’s clothing and accessories that are in “ready-to-sell” condition. “Ready-to-sell” means items are:
- Spring/Summer donations are “in-season” from November 1 to May 31.
- Fall/Winter donations are “in-season” from June 1 to October 31.
- Freshly laundered
HOW would you like me to prep and deliver my donations?
You can help us help more women and children by following these 5 steps for donating.
Step 1: Gather all of the women’s and children’s clothing and accessories you are ready to part with and make sure they are in “ready-to-sell” condition (in-season, freshly laundered, odor free)
Step 2: Inspect your “ready-to-sell” items carefully for:
- Animal hair
- Excessive wear
- Holes and tears
- Stressed seams
- Missing buttons
- Broken zippers
- Deodorant stains
Step 3: Ask yourself “Would I buy this again if I saw it at Rung Boutique?” If the answer is YES, then you’re almost ready to drop-off donations at Rung!
Step 4: Place all of your Rung donations into closed-top containers or bags you are ready to part with. We do not need clothing hangers or clothing ON hangers, and unfortunately, we are not able to return your containers and bags.
Step 5: Drop-off your donations during Donation Hours, or make an appointment to drop-off donations.
IMPORTANT: Please DO NOT donate clothing hangers or clothing ON hangers, and DO NOT bring donations in containers or bags that you need us to return to you.

WHY should I donate?
Because you love OUR MISSION and you want to support women and children in your community. We resell your VERY BEST donations in our beautiful boutique to raise money for Women’s Foundation of Greater St. Louis, Nurses for Newborns, and other St. Louis area women’s and children’s charities.
WHY do you have these guidelines for donating?
To ensure you get THE MOST tax-deductible value for your donations, and to ensure we are able to raise THE MOST money for Women’s Foundation of Greater St. Louis, Nurses for Newborns, and other women’s and children’s charities in our community.
Following our guidelines increases productivity, decreases overhead expenses, and increases store revenue in our boutique. Following our guidelines maximizes how much we can give back.
HOW do I get a tax deduction for my donations?
Make sure you are only donating “ready-to-sell” items that we can resell in our boutique. Rung, Ltd. is a 501c3 non-profit, and our tax ID # is 27-1053515. Your donations are tax-deductible to the extent the law allows. We can only assign tax-deductible value to items that are in “good, merchandisable condition.” If an item is something that we cannot resell, it will not make it to our sales floor, and it will not show up on your year-end tax receipt.
WILL you go through my donations and let me know what you cannot accept so I can donate them to another charity?
Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to manage this step in the process. Please remove all the items we cannot resell before you drop-off your donations.
DO you have recommendations for other charities that might accept the items that Rung cannot?
There are many organizations in the St. Louis area that will accept all kinds of donations. Here are a few that we recommend:
- Juniors/Prom dresses
- Home goods
- Misc. soft goods (bedding, stuffed animals, etc.
- Windows, doors, etc.
- Everything else
- St. Vincent de Paul
While we are not able to guarantee these organizations will accept your donations, we do recommend you visit their websites or give them a call to learn more about the work they do and how they accept donations.
CAN you return the containers I use to bring my donations in?
Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to manage this step in the process. Please use bags or containers that you do not need to drop-off your donations.
DO you pick-up donations?
We do not pick-up donations. Please plan on dropping off your donations at our boutique during Donation Hours, or by appointment.
HOW do you get your donations?
Rung Boutique opened in 2010 with approximately 2,000 pieces, thanks to the efforts of our founder Ali. After being open for a short time, word got out, donations poured in, and they just keep coming!
Most donations come from individuals, although some brand new items come from boutiques and retailers with the tags still on! We now receive hundreds of donations from our very generous, and fashionable, donor base several times a day. We just can’t brag enough about our donors!
WHAT happens to donated items that are not sold?
Items not sold at Rung Boutique, but are still in good condition, are passed on to other non-profit organizations. Most items are given to St. Louis Adventist Community Services, which is a food bank supported by sales at their thrift store.
WHAT types of donations will you NOT accept?
- Items donated on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday without an appointment.
- Items donated on clothing hangers.
- Items donated in containers you wish to keep.
- Items NOT in “ready-to-sell” condition (i.e. items are are off-season, soiled, worn).
- Items that are NOT women’s or children’s clothing and accessories.
WHAT if I don’t have time to pre-sort the items I wish to donate?
Please see our list of other charities and organizations (above) that might accept all of your unsorted donations.
